Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A pile up on an escalator at Wells Fargo this afternoon left multiple kids and adults with injuries, sending some to the hospital.

According to Duluth Police, officers were called around 1pm to Wells Fargo along Superior Street on the report of 20 kids stuck on the escalator.

Four kids and one adult were transported to St. Luke's and Essentia St. Mary's for their injuries. One of the kids sustained a "substantial" ankle injury. Others were treated for minor cuts and scrapes.

Authorities say the kids were with daycare providers at the time of the incident. The kids were tied together on a daycare type rope going down the escalator.

Officials say some of the kids were afraid to get off, causing a chain reaction behind them resulting in the pile up.
