Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The massive, inflatable replica of a human colon allows people to get an up–close and personal view of everything from healthy, pink tissue to a bright red mass of advanced colon cancer.

The interactive walkthrough is part of National Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

While officials say it's a fun way to learn for any age group, it comes on the heels of a very serious matter, as colon cancer is the second most common cancer–related death in the U.S.

"More people in the United States die of colon cancer [every year] than in the population of Duluth and Superior total," said Dr. Robert Erickson, gastroenterologist for Essentia Health Duluth.

Doctors say the best way to catch and prevent colon cancer is by getting a colonoscopy.
