Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Essentia Health in Duluth just received a major award that will help with their ongoing cancer research.

They participated in a national competition to receive funds to support cancer research, and they were the only organization north of the Twin Cities selected for the honor.

Essentia Health Cancer Centers in Duluth, Brainerd and Fargo were awarded $3.6 million for over the next five years by the National Cancer Institute's Community Oncology Research Program.

The program supports cancer clinical trials which will study the prevention, screening, treatment and imaging of different types of cancers.

Essentia is one of thirty-four communities that will receive these benefits.
