Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- Essentia Health-St. Mary's Children Hospital and the Kohl's Department Store in Duluth are teaming up and providing free life jackets for kids before Memorial Day Weekend.
A $45,277 grant from Kohl's Cares for Kids is providing the two institutions a chance to work together on a campaign to reduce the number of accidental drownings called "Alive with Life Jackets."
Essentia Health and Kohl's will give away 1,300 free life jackets on May 24 from 4p.m.- 6p.m. in the department store's parking lot.
The event will also encourage adults to become "Water Watchers" that pledge to give their undivided attention to children who are swimming.
To receive a free life jacket, children must attend the event to be properly fitted.
