Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- It is no surprise that with Memorial Day Weekend comes heavy traffic.
"It's the kickoff to the summer travel season," Captain of the Minnesota State Patrol in Duluth, Steven Stromback, said.
So we would like to provide you with some safety tips to help keep this holiday weekend safer.
"We generally see a more crashes over Memorial Day Weekend," Stromback said.
The most common accidents seen during Memorial Day Weekend are alcohol related crashes, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The patrol says they are also more likely to see inattentive driving/texting crashes.
"Definitely wear your seatbelt, because it's the most important thing you can do in a crash," Stromback said.
The Minnesota State Patrol advices motorists to be extra alert this weekend. They say you must watch out for other drivers who might not be attentive or might be impaired.
"Unfortunately, last year we had a number of motorcycles involved in fatality crashes. I'm anticipating with the warmer weather we are experiencing now with the holiday weekend," Stromback said.
"We'll see more motorcycles on the road. It's important for all motorists to expect that and watch for motorcycles. And it's important for the motorcycle operators to operate defensively," Stromback added.
Have a safe weekend.
