Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- It's full steam ahead for a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in Minnesota. DFL House leaders say a vote is expected on the legislation Thursday.

The idea of marriage equality and the timing of the possible law has one Northland couple waiting with baited breath for the outcome.

For Barbie Evans, a surge of optimism surrounding the 2013 legislative session is accompanied by the impending arrival her first child with her partner Rose. They decided to become pregnant, and selected a donor.

"We are expecting our first child and the due date is August 13th," said Evans. "If this would pass and go into effect, it would start August 1st and we would be married before the baby is born."

The couple has been together for seven and a half years and wants to bring their child into this world as a family.

"I think it would be amazing to have that experience and tell our children that "yes, you are all wanted and yes you came into our family and it is a whole family," said Evans.

The recognition is possible with their August 13th due date as the couple enters into the lifelong commitment of parenthood.

"I would really love to say to our child, yes we were married before you were born and it is recognized and we are a family that is recognized under Minnesota state law," said Evans. "This is something that is forever in our minds."

The House will begin debating the bill at noon tomorrow. If it passes, the Senate will take it up Monday.
