Gary New Duluth, Minn. (NNCNOW.com) -- A Gary New Duluth woman came home from work Wednesday afternoon to find smoke coming from her home.
Duluth fire officials responded to 1316 99th Ave. in Gary New Duluth just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officials say smoke was coming out of the roof and the eves of the home.
The fire started on the first floor in the kitchen and spread up the wall to the second floor and roof.
Officials say the home suffered about $50,000 in damages.
No one was home at the time of the fire except for two dogs and three cats.
"My first instinct I had was, 'my animals are inside.' I didn't care about anything else except my animals. I went in and opened the door just a little bit. I had my big boy come out and my little one come out and then I called the fire department," said Tonya Ojaniemi, who lives at the house.
Fire officials rescued the three cats from the basement and are still determining the cause of the fire.
