Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- A fire destroyed a home in Lakewood Township early Monday afternoon.

When firefighters were called to 5154 Washburn Road around 1 p.m. Monday, the home was engulfed in flames.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Neighbors tell us that the homeowners were on vacation.

Firefighters were able to save two vehicles in the garage as well as most of the garage itself.

Damage estimates are between $200,000 and $250,000

Crews were able to contain the fire in about 25 minutes but remained on scene the majority of the day.

"We're gonna be here probably for a good part of the rest of the day because we have so much collapse going on right now, trying to get to some of the hotspots," said Lakewood Volunteer Fire Chief Kurt Rogers.

Six different fire departments including Lakewood, Duluth and the Air National Guard responded to the fire.
