Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Firefighters in Superior rescued a dog from a burning home Friday night.

According to the Superior Fire Department, firefighters were called to a house fire off 23rd street around 9:19 p.m. Friday. Fire officials say the fire was in the basement of the home and was quickly extinguished.

Crews found a dog in the basement, brought it out of the home and administered oxygen. The dog was brought to the Duluth Veterinarian Hospital.

Officials say no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The Department says damage is expected to be $20,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Superior Fire officials say the dog, an approximately 4 month old beagle named Rush, is doing well for now, but is in guarded condition.

Officials say Rush will remain under veterinary care for at least another day.
