Duluth, Minn (NNCNOW.com) -- First Witness of Duluth has been awarded $10,000 by Compudyne through a nonprofit giveaway contest.

The company created the event to thank communities for their support over the last 25 years.

They had their customers nominated more than 25 nonprofit organizations around the Norhland to participate in the contest.

A committee at Compudyne narrowed the recommendations down to four non-profit groups: Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Pregnancy LifeCare Center, the Damiano Center and First Witness.

The company opened up the voting to the public through their website and First Witness got the most votes.

First Witness serves child abuse victims and their families by providing child-friendly interviews and counseling.

"We are going to use it [the money] to support our counseling program. We have support groups for kids and families and counselors who are on staff to help them work through what they need to, to get through the trauma after the abuse." said Executive Director, Beth Olson.

The other three organizations did not go home empty handed. They each received $1,500.
