Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)--- It was a historic moment in Douglas County Monday afternoon as the first same-sex couple said "I do!"
For a Superior couple...it's a day they have been waiting for..for 30 years.
Alvin Berg and Vincent Nelson obtained their Wisconsin marriage license and were wed in front of family and friends around 3:30 this afternoon at the Flame Nightclub in Superior.
For the couple, it's a day they never thought they would see in their lifetime
When a federal judge declared the state's same sex marriage ban unconstitutional last Friday..Berg and Nelson jumped at the opportunity to be married in Wisconsin.
"Everybody was just so happy for us and I think everybody, a lot of friends, thought they would not see this day, and were just as happy to see it as we were," said newlywed Alvin Berg.
The happy couple was the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage license and get married in Douglas County today...and hope many more follow.
The couple joked that they hoped to not be the first same-sex couple to get divorced in Douglas County.
