Fond Du Lac Reservation Boosts Northland's Economy
Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Fon du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa poured about three hundred and five million dollars back into the northland economy in 2011.
The band teamed up with the UMD School of Business to crunch the numbers on the impact of gaming and other tribal operations.
The study found the Reservation generates over 300 million dollars in St. Louis, Carlton, and Douglas Counties and employs some twenty–two hundred workers.
While gaming is the tribe's primary income generator they are also involved in many other lucrative endeavors including construction, gas, and logging businesses.
We thought it would be healthy not only for us but the surrounding community to understand not only what the investment that Fond du Lac makes in it's home community means to us, but what it means in the region as well.
The study also found, across the U.S., 237 tribes in 28 states are utilizing gaming operations to create jobs, fund services and rebuild their communities.
