November 21, 2013 Updated Nov 21, 2013 at 10:40 PM CST

St. Paul, MN (NNCOW.com) - A former republican Representative in the Minnesota House announced his campaign for Governor Thursday.

Marty Seifert is looking to reduce taxes and reduce the size of state government by abolishing some cabinet departments.

The former lawmaker would also stop any attempt to release sex offenders now in secure facilities in Moose Lake and Stillwater.

Seifert joins five other Republican candidates seeking to unseat DFL Governor Mark Dayton.
