Walker, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A former employee of a northern Minnesota school district is serving probation for stealing thousands of dollars in medical benefits.

Terri Vail was sentenced in Cass County this week for lying about her marital status on her insurance forms.

After claiming she was single for several years, the 53-year-old changed her status to married in 2008 and pocketed the extra insurance money.

Vail worked at the Cass Lake-Bena School District up until 2012, serving as secretary, payroll specialist and school board member.

Vail's sentencing requires her to pay back nearly $24,000 and serve three years' probation.
