Tower, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Four people were injured, one seriously, Friday night when their boat struck a concrete pier on Lake Vermillion.

The Saint Louis County Sheriff's Office responded just before 10:30 Friday evening to a boat crash at the Moccasin Point Boat Landing on Lake Vermilion.

Officers say 64–year–old Dan Lamppa, of Eveleth, was operating the boat when it struck the concrete boat dock at the landing. He was taken to the Cook Hospital with non–life threatening injuries.

65–year–old Nancy Lamppa, of Eveleth, was taken to Essentia Health Virginia Hospital with non–life threatening injuries.

61–year–old Steven Jacobson, of Tower, was initially taken to Essentia Health Virginia, and later airlifted to Saint Luke's Hospital in Duluth in serious condition.

A fourth passenger was treated at the scene.

Officers say operating a boat at night and alcohol are possible factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
