G-Tac to start bulk sampling

February 11, 2014 Updated Feb 11, 2014 at 10:58 PM CDT

Mellen, Wis. (NNCNOW.com) -- Gogebic Taconite could start bulk sampling as early as this week.

The Wisconsin DNR approved the company's plans and is not requiring them to get any more permits.

The cold winter weather has allowed the company to use existing roads to access three sample sites in the Town of Anderson located in Iron County.

Company officials say doing sampling while the roads are frozen will have less of an impact on the environment.

G–Tac has proposed to build a four mile long iron ore mine between Ashland and Iron Counties in Northwest Wis.
