Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Emergency responders in Duluth have blocked off the front entrance to the Greysolon Ballroom after the snow–coated overhang collapsed onto the sidewalk Saturday night, narrowly missing some of the building's residents.
According to eyewitnesses and fire crews on scene, the collapse occurred just after 8:15 Saturday night.
Fire crews responded immediately by blocking off the collapse sight, and directing traffic.
No injuries are reported at this time.
Elizabeth Hollenhorst, who was driving eastbound on Superior Street during the time of the collapse, says it was a close call for one Greysolon resident who made it out of the way in the nick of time.
"While I was over there, I actually spoke to a woman who said that she had just been going to step outside and saw the [roof] collapse right in front of her," said Hollenhorst.
The Duluth Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the collapse.
Heavy, wet snow may have been a factor.
