Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A group launching a beach cleaning program was welcomed to Duluth by Mayor Don Ness Tuesday morning.

During a special beach cleanup at Canal Park Beach the Alliance for the Great Lakes previewed the Adopt–a–Beach event, which will be held this Saturday along select beaches in Minnesota.

The Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, Minn., which for 16 years has coordinated the "Minnesota Beach Sweep" invited the Alliance to take over the annual event.

This will be the first year that the Alliance will lead the clean–up effort in Duluth.

"This weekend, Duluth residents and North Shore residents are going to have a chance to come out and join more than 30 events along the shoreline of the Duluth area to do on the ground clean ups, water quality monitoring, and assessing sites around the area to insure that they remain protected and healthy." says Joel Brammeier, President & CEO of Alliance for the Great Lakes.

If you'd like to learn how you can contribute to the clean–up you can visit the Alliance website.
