Duluth, MN (Northland's Newscenter) - The Hartley Nature Center will soon be a more interactive and hands on experience for visitors.

The center received a $15,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to help integrate mobile technology.

With the new funding, you'll no longer see paper guides for field trips, instead you'll be able to grab an iPad.

"It's through a technology that kids like, they know, they understand. Our bigger aim is that hopefully—I would imagine that kids have more access to iPads than they do to bird books at home, so hopefully this will spark their curiosity about birds," Tom O'Rourke, a Hartley Nature Center Manager, said.

Officials with the Hartley Nature Center say nearly 2,500 students visit each year.

A portion of the grant was spent on technology upgrades and the rest will be spent on supplies needed for its educational programs.
