Hermantown Burglar Gains Access Through Hidden Key
A burglar was arrested early Thursday morning after trying to gain access to a Hermantown home using a hidden extra key. Hermantown Police were were called to a home in the 5200 block of Lavaque Junction Road. A home owner called 911 to report that a man had tried to enter his house by using a key that was hidden inside the garage. The home owner confronted the man, asked him to leave, and then watched him as he backed his car out of the home owner's garage. The suspect then drove across the street to a neighbor's house and began checking the doors. Hermantown Police arrived on scene and took the man into custody. The suspect did not manage to get away with anything other than the key to the residence which was later found by police in his vehicle. Police say the 30-year-old Duluth man is a suspect in other area burglaries and suspicious activity in the recent past. He was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail and charges are pending. Those charges include 1st Degree Burglary-Felony, 3rd Degree Burglary-Felony, 5th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance-Felony, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Misdemeanor. Police ask that you be cognizant of where you stash extra keys to your home and that home owners lock the doors to both their homes and garages. Police believe the suspect did not gain entrance to the second residence he visited due to the fact that the garage and residence doors were locked. Hermantown Police were assisted at the scene by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department.
