Historic Park Point Fire Hall Up for Auction
Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.COM) --- The fate of the historic Park Point Fire Hall Number Five, in Duluth, is about to be in the hands of the highest bidder. The near-century old structure was an active fire station until this July, after being closed for inadequate staffing. According to City Councilor Sharla Gardner, who represents Park Point, city officials in favor of selling the hall don't want to put restrictions on the sale, which would allow the buyer to choose the fate of the property. But Gardner, who is opposed to the idea, says the city shouldn't be willing to sell its heritage to increase the reserve fund, without first considering alternatives. The fire hall will go up for auction on Dec. 14 with a starting bid of $175,000.
