Fallen Tree Believed to be the Cause of Duluth House Fire

November 23, 2012 Updated Nov 23, 2012 at 9:35 AM CST

Right around 6 a.m. this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 3700 block of E. 4th Street in Duluth.

The first responding fire department reported a fire in the basement of
the home.

Crews entered the home and stopped the spread of the fire, while evacuating the family inside.

Authorities believe the cause of the fire may have been a tree that had fallen on the power line to the home, causing the service mast to pull away from the house and severing the neutral line.

The home is no longer habitable, and the Red Cross has been notified of the need for assistance.

Initial damage estimates, including smoke damage throughout, are set at $25,000.

No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate the cause
