Grand Rapids, MN ( - The awards, given by the Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association, included the Work Zone Safety award, the ADA Accessibility award, and the Asphalt Paving award. The reconstruction project included a complete revamping of Highway 169 in Grand Rapids from First Street to Tenth Street South. Most notable, say officials, are the added safety features to the stretch of Highway, which include a new center turn–lane, pedestrian ramps and landings, and accessible pedestrian signals along new sidewalks. "This project has a number of different improvements to help people that have disabilities get around, cross the road, and be safe," said Beth Petrowske, with MNDoT Public Affairs. According to the Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association, projects are judged on teamwork and dedication to improving Minnesota's infrastructure in a safe, economical, and efficient manner.
