Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) - An Iron Range woman is not injured, but has been arrested for suspicion of driving drunk after her SUV was struck by a train in Sandy Township early Saturday.

According to the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s office, the 53-year-old Virginia woman was traveling west on County Highway 68 about 10 miles north of Virginia around 1:30 in the morning when her vehicle left the road, and got stuck in the snow near the Canadian National railroad tracks.

The oncoming train’s conductor saw her GMC Envoy, and attempted to stop the train. However, the train ended up colliding with the front of the vehicle at a slow speed.

The driver was inside the vehicle at the time, but was not injured.

The Sheriff’s office says alcohol appears to be a factor, and the woman was arrested for suspicion of Driving under the influence of Alcohol.
