Iron River, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- A tornado safe room will soon be built in Iron River, Wisconsin thanks to the help of a FEMA grant.

More than $238,000 in Hazard Mitigation grant funds will help to build the safe room at the Bayfield County Fairgrounds.

It will be located across from the grandstand and will provide shelter for up to 500 people during a severe weather event.

The grant covers 75% of the projects total cost.

Wisconsin Emergency Management Agency and Bayfield County will each contribute nearly $40,000.
