Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - University of Minnesota Duluth Professor Jennifer Schultz has won the DFL endorsement for the Minnesota House District 7A seat.

The 42–year–old economics professor was endorsed over three other candidates vying for the seat at the Senate District 7 DFL convention Saturday at Duluth East High School.

The 7A seat is being left open by Representative Tom Huntley, of Duluth, who previously announced he's not running for re–election.

The Wisconsin native has lived in Minnesota for the past 20 years, after receiving her graduate degree from the University of Minnesota.

Schultz says her economic background makes her a strong candidate.

"We need to do several things next session," said Schultz after receiving the endorsement. "I think, as an economist, I can address many of the issues that people have told me that they're struggling with. One is health chare, the other is increasing the minimum wage."

On the Republican side of the 7A seat, Becky Hall has won the GOP endorsement.

The two will face off in November elections.
