Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- A Douglas County Board member wants to be the next mayor of Superior.

Jim Paine officially announced today that he's in the running.

Paine grew up in Superior and went to UW-Superior for his undergrad and got a masters degree at University of Minnesota Duluth.

He has served on the Douglas County Board for the last five years.

Paine says he believes the city needs to start focusing on the future.

"I think that cities are the future of the United States," said Paine. "I think that they are fantastic great places to live and that's what we need to focus on. A place that we enjoy living. If we like living here, other people are going to like living here too and they are going to build their homes here and start their businesses here. That's what we need to focus on."

Paine is up against incumbent Mayor Bruce Hagen and Greg Mertzig.
The election is on November 6, 2014.
