Jungle Boy Boxing Celebrates Its New Home

DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Jungle Boy Boxing Gym celebrated its new location today along with its partnership with the City of Duluth.

The non-profit organization took over a park building in Observation Park rent free, in exchange for taking care of the building.

The gym, formerly known as Horton's Gym, was passed on to Zach "Jungle Boy" Walters who boxed with Horton's gym during his professional career.

Walters says the main purpose of the gym is to give youth a positive outlet.

"Benefit disadvantaged youth, keep them away from drugs and delinquency. I mean those temptations are out there for all kids. You don't have to disadvantaged to fall into the traps of drugs delinquency, partying," said Zach Walters.

"There's a lot of work ethic that goes into it there's a commitment that goes into being a good boxer and with Zach and what he brings to the table, I think he's going to change kids' lives," said Duluth Mayor Don Ness.

There are scholarships available for those that cannot afford the gym dues.
