Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Lake Superior Zoo held a birthday celebration for Berlin the polar bear Saturday.

Berlin will turn 23 this month. She's currently at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, but will soon be moving to Kansas City for breeding. Plans are for the bear to move in mid–December.

While Berlin isn't currently at the zoo to celebrate, other animals were. The zoo gave the animals special treats in honor of the festivities.

The celebration at the zoo was to wish Berlin well on her journey as well as a happy birthday.

"To see people come out and celebrate with us is really exciting," said the zoo's Guest Services Assistant, Anya Russom, "It really brings us together and gives us hope and we just really appreciate the support."

Zoo officials don't know if Berlin will return to Duluth, but if she does, they'll be ready for her. Zoo staff and partners are finalizing conceptual plans for a new polar bear facility out of the flood plain.
