St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - 19-year-old UMD student Alyssa Lommel remains in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul after suffering severe hypothermia over the weekend.

Duluth Police found Lommel unconscious on the porch outside of her neighbor's house Saturday morning, where the temperature overnight dropped to 17 degrees below zero.

Police say the UMD freshman was dropped off outside her home Friday night and was found the next morning by a passerby after spending nearly 10 hours outdoors. She was wearing boots, jeans, a sweater and a medium weight jacket.

According to a police report, Lommel had been dropped off by three men in the early morning hours who all told police Lommel was not drunk, but "definitely had a good buzz on."

The report said Lommel had attended a party Friday night.

Her parents, Jay and Teri Lommel, shared the following statement Tuesday.

“We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers for our daughter. We ask for privacy at this time so that we may focus on her healing.”

Lommel is a sophomore majoring in psychology and sociology.

UMD Police released a statement Tuesday urging caution in the extreme cold. Travel in groups. Let people know where and when you will be traveling, and check in.
