Duluth, Minn. (NNCNOW.com) -- For the first time in 19 years, people won't be able to enjoy a Lutefisk dinner at the First Lutheran Church.

The annual dinner fundraiser is cancelled due to the weather conditions.

550 pounds of Lutefisk and 400 pounds of potatoes had to be sent back to the wholesalers.

On Monday volunteers made 450 pounds of meatballs, which will be served at the church service on Wednesday and also sold.

Organizers say they are not sure what's going to happen to the 450 pounds of salmon.

However, 100 loaves of bread will be donated to the Damiano center.
Organizers say the dinner serves as their biggest fundraiser of the year.

"This was a major fundraising effort that we have at our church to support some of the organizations in town that help people that are in need and we usually brought in between 10 to 15,000 dollars, so its a huge loss to not to have that this year," said Beatrice Ojakangas one of the organizers of the event.

Dinner tickets will be honored for next year's dinner or people can get a refund.
