Lutsen, MN (NNCNOW.COM)--- Despite warm temperatures, Lutsen Mountain opened today, thanks to the help of new snowmaking equipment.

The Ullr and flap jack runs on Ullr Mountain are now open to Skiier's and Snowboarders.
The Ullr are magic carpet lifts are also in service.

Lutsen bought more than 30 snow guns this year which use less electricity and water to make snow.

The snowmaking machines have their own mini weather stations which measure temperature and humidity and automatically adjust the mixture of air and water flow.

Lutsen, Mont Du Lac, Spirit Mountain and Giant's Ridge all had to shut down early last season due to a lack of snow and cold temperatures.

They hope to be open by Thanksgiving or early December.
