Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Ritchie spoke with students at UMD about the electoral process Monday.

He addressed, in particular, the importance of understanding the impact that voting on constitutional amendments has.

Ritchie says northlanders should take pride in the fact that Minnesota and Wisconsin are the top two in the nation for voter turnout.

But, he says barriers exist for new, student–aged voters that could deter them from casting their ballots.

"Young voters are often voting for the first time, so they may need some additional information. Also, they may be a little shy having never done something—you're a little not sure. So, making sure people have the information they need, that's one thing," said Ritchie.
