Cannon Falls, MN (NNCNOW.com) - We now know the names of the elderly couple killed in a crash in Cannon Falls.

A state trooper who was injured in the crash has also been identified.
Trooper Scott Reps remains in the hospital Saturday, but a current condition is not being made public.

79-year-old Geneva Scott and 78-year-old Norman Scott - both of Cannon Falls - were killed in the crash.

Authorities say the couple pulled out in front of the trooper as he was rushing to a motorcycle crash.

Moments after Oscar Berg rolled up on the crash that ended two lives, he was greeted by first responders.

"She was a cop lady and she hollered she wanted a knife to cut the airbag string off," said Berg.

In his pocket was a pocket knife; a gadget that's saved him so many times. But on the Fourth of July, "I tried to help him but I couldn't that's about all I could do," said Berg.

He watched helplessly as medics tried to rescue a 79–year woman and 78–year–old man trapped in the this Taurus. The male driver crashed into a Minnesota State Patrol Trooper responding to a motorcycle crash.

Michelle Smith was working at McDonald's.

"The back drive through so I was kind of prepping the food and all of that stuff I walked back–and–forth glanced out and saw it," said Smith.

Now, those images are on repeat.

"Yep a Fourth of July I'll never forget," said Smith.

"I thought of that all the time afterwards," said Berg, "in fact you go to bed and you dream about this."

The officer who was trapped in this twisted and mangled mess survived and is recovering at St. Mary's.

"He went up in the air pretty good. He is lucky he got out of it," said Berg.
