St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Minnesota teachers could lose the ability to strike for higher pay, under certain conditions outlined in a bill approved today by the House Education Finance Committee.
A strike would not be allowed if a school board was to offer teachers a compensation raise in proportion to the district's general education formula increase.
Republican supporters of House File 269 say the measure will give school districts flexibility when facing the decision to either hold back on compensation increases or lay off teachers.
DFLers on the committee said Republicans are launching another legislative attack on Minnesota's teachers, whom they argue are already not paid enough.
