Make picking strawberries at a farm near you a family tradition

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Some people think some of the best July 4th and Independence Day activities involve strawberry picking, and they say Minnesota is full of farms where you and the family can do just that.

"Picking conditions and availability will change each day. Make picking a fun way to celebrate with your family! Dressing for the weather and wearing comfortable shoes ensure a great picking experience!" Minnesota Grown Program spokesperson, Jessica Miles, said.

Some 'pick your own' and pre-picked strawberry farms in southern Minnesota and the metro area are expected to open around June 20, according to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.

The strawberry harvest is a couple weeks behind schedule and a long/cold spring could be to blame. Despite this delay, Minnesota farmers are still expecting a wonderful turnout of the sweet fruit.
