Ely, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A 49-year-old man who died after flames ripped through a cabin early Monday morning on Greenstone Lake near Ely has been identified as Brant Harris.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department said the owner of the cabin, Brian Sherwood, called 911 to tell them his cabin burned down with his friend inside, who was unable to escape.

The Sheriff said there is no road access to the cabin. It can only be reached by water.

The fire is under investigation by the Lake Co. Sheriff's Department, which was assisted by St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, Ely Police Dept., the DNR, and investigators from the Minnesota Fire Marshall's Office and the BCA.

The fire cause is still under investigation and yet to be determined.

The victim’s body was transported to Hibbing for an autopsy.
