Schroeder, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- A 20-year-old Eden Prairie man drowned in the Temperance River Friday around 5:25 p.m.

According to the Cook County Sheriff's Department, Pavel Shtrefleng got caught in strong currents while swimming in the river and was pulled under water several times.

His brother attempted to save him but was unable to due to the strong river currents.

Authorities say Shtrefleng was submerged four to five minutes before resurfacing. CPR was preformed for about for about 20 to 30 minutes before the ambulance arrived.

He was transported to the Cook County North Shore hospital in Grand Marais, where he was pronounced dead.
