Pine County, MN (NNCNOW.com) - While they were waiting the intruder reached for his waist band then made a break for it escaping into nearby woods.

The reported break in happened around 2:17 Monday morning. The resident living in the 43000 block of Alma Razor Rd. in Pine County, MN heard noises in his house and confronted an intruder. While holding a gun on the man the homeowner called police.

The resident told Sheriff's Dispatch that he was holding an intruder at gun point. The Pine County Sheriff's office reports that as deputies were responding, dispatchers heard three gunshots then lost contact with the home owner.

Upon arrival deputies spoke with the resident who says he woke to the sound of his home's door opening which caused him to grab his hand gun and confront a man in his living room. He says he did not know the man.

The resident claims the intruder became agitated, reached for his waistband and the resident thought he was reaching for a weapon. So the home owner fired three shots as the intruder ran for the door.

Deputies followed tracks along Alma Razor Road which led them into the woods where they located a man hiding in a snow bank behind a tree.

Authorities say the suspect matched the description of the intruder and his footprints led from the residence.

A vehicle, connected to the suspect, was found on the home's property.
The man found in the woods was treated for hypothermia then booked into the Pine County Jail.
