Washburn, WI (NNCNOW.com) - A 58-year-old Fond du Lac, Wisconsin man was transported by helicopter to a Duluth hospital after being struck by a boat propeller and motor on Thursday afternoon.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office received a call of a boating accident on Upper Eau Claire Lake, in the Township of Barnes just after 3:00 Thursday afternoon.

When authorities arrived, crews found that one person had been injured with severe lacerations.

The injured person was the operator of the boat, 58-year-old, Thomas Wincek, of Fond Du Lac, WI.

According to the Sheriff's report, Wincek, his son, and grandson had left the boat landing on the Upper Eau Claire, and lost control of the boat at cruising speed.

Both Thomas and his son were thrown from the boat; the grandson remained in the boat as it continued to go in circles.

The grandson was able to get to the ignition and turn off the motor.

Wincek was transported to the Hayward hospital and then transported by Helicopter to the Hospital in Duluth.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
