Hayward, WI (NNCNOW.com) ---A Marine who was home for the holidays died New Year's day from exposure near his family's home in Hayward, Wisconsin.

Lance Corporal Matthew Raimer, 25, of Camp Pendleton, Calif., went out New Year’s Eve and utilized River Edge Saloon's sober ride program.

Raimer was staying with family on North Hamlin St. in Hayward but did not make it home.

Raimer was dropped off in the vicinity of his residence and authorities believe he may have mistaken a nearby house for his own.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's office found Raimer deceased on the sidewalk outside of a home on Margaret Lane after receiving a call from the residents of that home.

The investigation is ongoing and no foul play is suspected.
