Cleveland, OH (NNCNOW.com) - Several feet of ice caused major delays to the start of the Great Lakes shipping season this year.

Shipments of iron ore, coal and cement totaled 980,000 tons, a decrease of 55% compared to a year ago in March.

Coal shipments totaled 103,000 tons, a decrease of 45%.

Cement shipments fell to 52,000 tons, a decrease of 67%.
