Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Duluth Mayor Don Ness has proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The mayor was joined by several members of the Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault for the annual event.
Mayor Ness wanted to make it clear that the Twin Ports takes sexual assault very seriously and has made it a priority to take a stand against sexual violence.
PAVSA provides counseling, personal advocacy, medical advocacy, legal services, and support groups to victims of sexual violence.
"This issue is a women's issue, it's a human issue. It's sexual assault awareness. It's something that this community stands up and says this is not OK," said Tony Rubin, a member of PAVSA's board of Directors.
PAVSA has many events throughout the month of April to raise awareness about sexual assault within the community.
