Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter)
-- Duluth Mayor Don Ness wants the school district and community advocates to come to a compromise on the future of the Congdon Park Elementary school ice rinks.
The school's recreation committee is planning on moving the current rinks to make room for more parking and better handicap accessibility for the school.
Meanwhile an advocacy group has started a petition to keep the rinks the way they are.
Mayor Ness wants the city to help in any way possible but isn't looking to get thrown in the middle of this issue.
He says the city can help the school district get land or use variances once a compromise is reached.
"We could participate is helping that we have a good recreational space for that neighborhood, that's a role that we can play. But clearly what we are talking about a very small portion about what needs to happen on that site"
The school distinct wants to get a final plan to the school board for it's next meeting on February 28th.
