Midway Township, MN (NNCNOW.com) - According to Midway Township Chairman Earl Elde, more than 150 township residents showed their support for Duluth's partial annexation during a town hall meeting, Monday evening.
Elde says the primary concern among Midway residents has always been preserving the township's way of life, and that Duluth has promised a negotiation board consisting of three Midway residents and three Duluth officials in an effort to protect those interests going forward.
Elde also warns that what he calls a "hostile takeover" of Midway by Proctor could damage business relationships between Midway residents and Proctor businesses.
"[Proctor businesses] aren't afraid to tell it like it is—that they're being hurt because Midway residents go in there and tell them that they're not going to be shopping in this area anymore," said Elde.
According to the township's official website, Midway has a population of 1,400 residents.
