Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Companies in Minnesota exported a combined $20.7 billion to foreign markets in manufacturing, mining and agricultural products during 2013; there was a 3.3% increase in manufactured exports.
In 2012, Minnesota carried out $20.8 billion worth of exports to foreign markets. Last year manufactured exports made up 93% of the state's exports.
"Exports are a vital part of the state's economy, with more than 8,600 businesses in Minnesota exporting goods and services," Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Commissioner, Katie Clark Sieben, said. "With new trade offices opening in South Korea, Brazil and Germany, the state is positioned to continue building export sales around the world and attracting more foreign direct investment."
DEED says North America was the largest global export region in 2013 with $7.2 billion in sales; the U.S. was followed by Asia at $6.5 billion.
