Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota is the second most bicycle–friendly state in the nation. This is the second year we ranked second. In 2011 and 2010 Minnesota was ranked number four, and in 2008 and 2009 we were fifth.
"This ranking is recognition of the work on behalf of bicycling being done by both the public and private sectors throughout the state," Executive Director of the Bicycle Alliance, Dorian Grilley, said.
The Bicycle Friendly States says their ranking is based on infrastructure/funding that provide safe places to bike, education/encouragement programs that promote cycling and passage/enforcement of bicycle–friendly laws.
Nearly half of Minnesotans rode a bicycle last year, the 2012 Omnibus Transportation Survey found. Washington is the most bicycle–friendly state and Wisconsin is the third.
