Missing canoeists are safe due to rescue

Hoyt Lakes, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Two canoeists are safe after being rescued from the St. Louis River last night.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff, a couple from the Zim area was canoeing east of Hoyt Lakes when their canoe struck a rock, becoming partially submerged and leaving them stranded.

They were reported missing around 9 p.m. leading to their rescue by the Hoyt Lakes Fire Department and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.

Both people were treated for exposure at a nearby hospital and released.
