Multiple Accidents in Beltrami County Result in Serious Injuries

Bemidji, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Multiple accidents over the last few days have kept authorities busy in Beltrami County.

First, an accident on Saturday night, September 22, left two people seriously injured.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident on the Irvine Bridge over Highway 71 in Northern township near Bemidji.

Authorities arrived to find a jeep wrangler on its side on the bridge with the driver trapped inside.

The driver, identified as 48 year old Eric Nelson, had pulled north onto Irvine from the Highway 71 ramp and began driving when he was struck by another vehicle driving northbound.

The owner of the other vehicle, 44 year-old Michael Perry, rear ended Nelson’s vehicle and caused it to skid to its side before resting against the bridge rail.

Both drivers were transported to the ER in Bemidji but were later released.

Perry was found to have indications of alcohol impairment and was taken into custody for Criminal Vehicular Operation.

Another accident occurred Sunday night just after 7 PM.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident involving a Toyota camry and a motorcycle at the intersection of Bedida Road SW and Fern Lake Road SW in Grant Valley Township.

Authorities say that upon arrival two individuals from the motorcycle were found lying in the road suffering from extreme injuries.

The victims, 42-year-old Bradley Mordini and 38-year-old Michelle Sugar were transported to Sanford Hospital ER in Bemidji and life flighted to Sanford Hospital Trauma Center in Fargo in critical condition.

The driver of the car, 26-year-old Steven Greenwood and 27-year-old Melissa Sue Beyer were turning south onto Fern Lake Road from Becida Road and failed to yield right of way turning left in front of the motorcycle.

Neither occupants of the car were injured.

Greenwood had possession of marijuana in the vehicle and admitted to officers that he had been using it prior to the collision.

He was issued a citation for criminal vehicular operation.

Early Tuesday morning, one person was seriously injured following yet another car crash in Beltrami County.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a single vehicle accident in the 1600 block of Fern Lake Road.

Authorities way a female driver was driving northbound on Fern Lake Road when her vehicle went off the road and slammed into a tree.

The driver was pinned inside the vehicle and rescued using the “jaws of life”

The driver was then life flighted from the scene to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, but her condition is not known at this time.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until all family members are notified

The incident still remains under investigation.
