NTSB completes investigation into fatal plane crash

April 25, 2014 Updated Apr 26, 2014 at 11:19 AM CDT

Laramie, WY (NNCNOW.com) - An investigation has been completed in the plane crash that claimed the life of former St. Louis County Medical Examiner, Dr. Donald Kundel in 2012.

The National Transportation Safety Board found the accident occurred during a landing attempt with a gusting tailwind at an airport in the state of Wyoming.

The NTSB reports Dr. Kundel's decision to attempt a downwind landing likely resulted in him losing control of the plane, and the subsequent impact with the ground.

The 79 year old Doctor was alone when he piloted the small plane on the cross country flight from Duluth to Laramie.
